Evening Master Class: 1st December 2009

THE UNSOLVED PROBLEM

16:00 - 18:00Caring for the Caregiver: Dealing with Compassion Fatigue in the Military

Compassion fatigue (CF) is a pressing issue that is only just starting to get attention. After 9 years of prolonged conflict with high coalition casualty rates there is an urgent need for military medical services to recognise and put in place the correct education and/ or intervention to reduce the symptomology.

The concern is that unless CF is dealt with in a consistent way, both at the strategic and operational level, the long term costs to the military health services could be severe.

This masterclass will examine:

  • How to identify those at risk
  • Identifying risks earlier
  • Describe symptoms on details and explain coping mechanisms
  • Identification of resiliency factors to help reduce symptoms
  • Detailed explanation for how the US military is dealing with CF with its caregivers

What will you take away?

  • You will have a clear understanding of how to identify early signs of CF
  • Become familiar in dealing with CF and burn out across the medical service
  • Learn how to decrease symptoms of the caregiver
  • Implement back best practice to your own service
